The project I worked for is part of KOSSP Zagreb, Croatian club for training sports and official dogs. Dog owners are welcome to have fun, compete in different disciplines or simply learn something more about their dog's behaviour.
Rally obedience (also known as Rally or Rally-O) is a dog sport based on obedience. It is a mixture of classical obedience training and agility training. Unlike agility, speed is not the focus of Rally. The real core of Rally-O is the chemistry between dog and handler.
The competitors proceed around a course full of signs with the dog in heel position. The course consists of 15 to 19 signs that instruct the team what to do. Dogs of all breeds can practice it. Dog & handler focus on fulfilling tasks and completing a course. It includes a lot of different sings: basic commands, turns, jumps and slaloms/spirals. Except the signs, some other items can be used on the course during exercise: bar jump, tunnel, table and cones. There are four difficulty classes of Rally obedience in Croatia: RO1, RO2, RO3 and RO4.
Main inspiration for the visual identity were cones which are set on the course mainly for slaloms/spirals. Cones have to stay up while the competitors are doing exercise around them. As cones are used on roads for redirecting traffic temporarily, they are also a sign of changing things and learning new paths. Main element is made out of the letter A which has two extra horizontal lines. Negative space that cone forms is also used as a pattern in backgrounds.
There are a lot of items that are at the moment suggested to be produced. All of those would improve the work that club is doing and promote Rally discipline amongst wider population; contestants wearing t-shirts in class colours during the competitions; paper holders can be very useful for storing Rally-O course signs; dog tags in class colours can become a tiny competition medals... Branding has a lot of potential to grow and we hope that everyone will recognize the most important thing club is trying to promote: spending some quality time with your four legged pet.
